Letter From The Administration:
With snow arriving, it must be time for winter
vacation. It's close, but not just yet!
Our girls are beginning their push towards
exams, and the copy machine is getting a work
out. Students are starting to plan how
to best allot their time. For some,
spacing out their time at the start of the secular
calendar is essential for their success. Others
can not be bothered until the
night before the exam. Whatever the case
may be, I'll use the bracha from this weeks Sedrah, "Yesimcha
Elokim Keprhaim v'chiMenashe..." and may Hashem grant all of us
success in whatever we do.
If you have any comments, please sent them to

Shabbat Shalom!

Dvar Torah
In
this week's parshah, a conflict arises between Yosef and his
father, Yaakov, concerning the order his sons should be blessed
in. The Sheim Mi Shmuel comments that Yosef is so intent on having
Menashe be blessed first because of his quality of "tzur mey
rah", refraining from immoral actions. Yosef, knowing that
his descendants will be exiled, wanted to point out that the only
salvation is to cease from aveiros. However, we see that Yaakov
insists on blessing Ephraim first because he epitomizes ""ma'aseh Tov",
doing mitzvot. In this circumstance, Yaakov is teaching his children that refraining from aveirot is not the
initial step of repentance. It is necessary to actively do good before
one is able to genuinely refrain from bad. In accordance to this
concept, the Rambam stresses that if a
person keeps his mind on Torah, it will unfailingly help block the
yetzer hara. The presence of good always repels the presence of
evil.
Rav
Pinchas M. Teitz, zt”l
Miriam Klar
Monday morning, on the 21st, everyone thinks the fun and games are over and it’s
time to go back to class. However, Bruriah decided to surprise us with a
program commemorating Rav Pinchas M. Teitz, zt”l and his yortzait.
We got to see a video of Rav Teitz, highlighting several of his major
accomplishments and giving us an overview on how much Rav Teitz
influenced everyone in the world. Rav Teitz built up the Jewish community
in Elizabeth into the large community it is today. He founded the JEC in
1941, followed by RTMA, and finally… BRURIAH!!! Rav Teitz was president
of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis in America and Canada from 1956-1968. He founded
the “Talmudic Seminar on Air,” a radio broadcast, in Yiddish, in which he
learned and spoke about one page of Talmud each week, helping everyone
learn it together. In 1964, Rav Teitz started going to Russia to help the
Jews there. He would bring them siddurim, Sifrei Torah, and
Tefilin, necessities in a Jewish life that the Russian government
deprived the Jews of. He made a total of 22 trips, all of which helped to
preserve and increase Jewish life in Russia. Without him, we wouldn’t be
in Bruriah today!
If you took a peek inside the
Bruriah ball room these past
three weeks, you should have
seen tons of girls singing,
dancing, playing the piano or
setting up tons of wires. All
this was part of the Bruriah
Mother Daughter Production
preparations. This year’s theme
was ‘World of our Fathers’ which
included beautiful music and
talent as everyone put their
best foot forward. As the
Sunday performance grew closer
and closer, the excitement and
anticipation continued to grow
as girls would wait for their
practices.
This year, the faculty took it
upon themselves to be able to
get as many girls involved as
possible in the production. The
addition of our song dance was a
huge success and the large
ensemble was fantastic. They
spent countless hours working
extremely hard down to the last
detail. Mrs. Krupka, Mrs.
Peikes, Mrs. Azizolohof and many
other teachers helped on this
wonderful event. Down to
organizing and ordering the
dinner to sewing costumes, they
were continuously helping, thank
you.
Anyone who came to Mother
Daughter loved it and loved
watching all the amazing and
beautiful talent that Bruriah
has. Teachers loved the
atmosphere and ruach in the air
between the mothers and
daughters. It was wonderful
being a part of Mother Daughter
sharing the experience with so
many other girls. Mother
Daughter gives students the
ability to become friends with
people from other grades.
Of course Mother Daughter
wouldn’t be possible if it
weren’t for Mrs. Aliza
Blumenthal. Without her
millions of hours of work on the
production and all her gracious
help, the production wouldn’t
have happened. Thank you Aliza,
all the faculty and all the
students for all your hard work
and a job well done!

Tootsie Roll is Going
Kosher
Chana Gorelik
Have you ever wondered why a non kosher product
suddenly becomes kosher? What caused the company to change their
mind? Do they really want us to increase our dress size? Actually, it is
because the companies want to increase their market sales. By
making the product kosher, sales will increase because there are many
more consumers who will buy the product. Recently, Tootsie Roll
became kosher for the same reason after the long process of making the factory
Kosher. Just in case you were wondering, the Orthodox Union has
said that you may eat the product without the OU symbol on it. So
dig in, b’taiavon!
