Whatever happens girls, remember that you are a diamond.” With these and other words of inspiration, Rav Benny Eisner addressed the school as everyone listened in rapt attention. Hearing Rav Benny’s love for each and every Jew and his passion for Eretz Yisrael was certainly a highlight of the week and perhaps one of the top ten highlights of the year. We all left the ballroom after his speech with a wonderful warm feeling for our own value and the value of every Jew.

The week continued with the Science Fair. From Allergies and Antacids to Mold and Volcanoes, the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades put on a dazzling display of research and experimentation. The evening was a wonderful example of how hard work and diligence with a dash of creativity can produce an evening full of fun and learning.

One quick word about the Parshat Hachodesh which we read this week: In setting aside the Korban Pesach on the 10th of the month, Bnei Yisrael exhibited incredible Mesirat Nefesh. Imagine walking into a packed Yankee Stadium with a life sized doll of Derek Jeter and announcing to the crowd that you are planning to burn the doll in five days. The crowd would never allow it. Yet, the Jews took the animal worshipped by the Egyptians (that’s a greater idol than Derek Jeter) and did just that. WOW! As their descendants, each of us has that ‘mesirat nefesh gene’ as part of our spiritual DNA. We have what it takes to take a stand when our very freedom to live a Torah life is at stake. All we need to do is go out and use that trait when the need arises. Have a great Shabbat.
