Bruriah’s Town Hall Election Meeting By Racheli Levy |
|
On October 30th, Bruriah students enjoyed a special program run by Mrs. Piekes and other faculty members: a mock election. A few weeks ago, each student was asked to write down a question related to the economy, Israel, or the other issues in the election in their history class. Only later did they discover that these questions would be asked during the mock election program. Two wonderful speakers, representing the Republican and Democratic parties, clarified their respective party’s stances on the issues. Each speaker had one minute to respond to the questions the moderator, Mr. Glazer, and the students posed to them. The students were informed about issues regarding health insurance, the economy, the war in Iraq, and the many other issues of concern to our nation. AISAC organized a special report on the candidates’ views toward Israel. After the students had their questions answered, they eagerly voted for our next President. The outcome for our school stated McCain as our next President. The program was very informative, and allowed the students to really understand each candidate and what they were up against. Students and faculty alike gained from the educational and exciting program. Our election day program even made it into the newspaper!
