With Mother -Daughter just about upon us and with Chanukah on the way, I can not help but feel the Simcha in the hallways of Bruriah. In this week’s Parsha, Parshat Vayishlach, there are three main stories which stand out. First, Yaakov is preparing for his meeting with Eisav. In the next story, the wrestling match between Yaakov and the Angel is discussed. Finally, the Torah describes the reaction of Shimon and Levi when their sister Dina is defiled. In the first story, Yaakov works with many individuals to formulate a successful plan in dealing with Eisav. In the second episode, Yaakov works alone in his struggle. In the last episode, it is two people working together passionately (perhaps a bit misguided– depending on which one of the explanations you want to follow). Although there is some academic give in the hullabaloo leading up to our wonderful Mother-Daughter Supperette, we feel that our students gained by participating, even with the aforementioned academic give. Like the three episodes in this week’s Parsha, in preparation for the production, working as a group, working with a partner, and ultimately finding yourself will Im Yirtzeh Hashem lead to tremendous growth on the part of the girls.
