What do Cotton Candy, Tie Dye, Bake Sale, The Great Deli Roll Taste Off and especially the “Song That Never Ends” sung by the famous Bruriah baritone, Rabbi Hagler, share in common?  They are just several of the very creative Tzedakah campaigns being waged by Bruriah students to raise money for Od Yosef Chai.

It has been a busy and very meaningful week at Bruriah. Juniors visited the Cold Spring Harbor DNA Lab and spent several hours manipulating DNA with restriction enzymes.  The junior high school spent an exciting day in Nanuet, New York.  The highlights of their trip included ice skating, a special showing at the 3D Imax, pizza in the shadow of an indoor Ferris wheel and even a little time for shopping.  Debate at Bruriah on Wednesday brought together talent from so many participating schools: Bruriah, SKA, Ezra, TA and Kushner.  Kudos to all the girls and teams who placed and took home trophies.  A special thank you to Madame Captan and Henny Tsikhanovski for all their hard work in organizing this event.

On Thursday we were inspired by Mrs. R. Hirth who spoke about her illustrious Zeide Harav Shmuel Birnbaum ZT”L.  Her stories reflected the greatness of this Gadol whose whole being was Torah.  Rabbi Birnbaum’s empathy for others and his awareness of the needs of others was illustrated in so many of the moving stories. The stories Mrs. Hirth shared were inspiring in that she reminded us that her grandfather wasn’t someone who was born special or even from a famous family, but rather the Rosh HaYeshiva was someone who worked his whole life at fulfilling the mandate that one should live a life of Torah.

Our busy week ended with the informative and valuable annual Rabbi Teitz, shlita Pesach question and answer session.

Hope you have a wonderful Shabbos.  Remember to give your Moms the help they will need in this busy pre-Pesach week.  Happy cleaning, happy shopping, and happy cooking and baking.   Have a Chag Kasher V’Sameach!
